Where is it? • It is in Arizona in the Black Mountains.
History • The town Oatman is named after a girl called Olive Oatman from Illinois. She got kidnapped from here family by an Indian tribe and she was a slave for them. Then she got taken from them by another tribe of Indians who treated her nicely. • She got tattooed by the Indians and there for she has the marks on her face. • In 1855 she got freed near Oatman.
Known for • It was a mining town, • In 1915 they found gold worth $10,000,000 • After that 3,500 people moved there because of the newfound gold.
War and post war • 1941 the U.S. government demanded the gold mining to stop because the gold was not needed for the war. • Thankfully Route 66 was passing through the town and they therefore got a lot of tourist visiting.
Tourism • They have wild donkeys roaming down the road and they also have gun fights every day • Historic Route 66 is going trough the town which also attracts a lot of people
