Adventure Racing • also know as expedition racing • outdoor activity that consists a lot on your physical endurance and ability to overcome any obstacle or physical activity: • Cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling, climbing and rope skills could be very helpful during the challenge to overcome this race • could take up to 10 days to accomplish

  3. History Of Adventure Racing • John Turner was a co-finder of the California Adventure Racing Association. • Many still debate on the origin of adventure racing • People look at the Karrimor International Mountain Marathon, as the birth of adventure racing • This marathon took place in 1968.

  4. Equipment Required • Shirts • Pants • Socks • Shoes • Jackets • Watches • Maps • First aid • Bug spray • Compass • Sunglasses • Backpacks • Headlamp • Bike • Climbing materials • cookware • Food • Water • Knives • Multi tools

  5. Participation • If you would like to participate in an adventure race, there are many locations in which you can. So you can always find the closes location for convenience. The top 5 places where one would go to participate would be: • Florida • Texas • California • Pennsylvania • Colorado

  6. Safety Equipment • For comfort and safety, it is recommended for the racer to wear light gear in order for them to be able to move lighter, faster, and stronger. • Proper clothing • First aid kit • Eye protection • Feet protection • Bug spray • Helmet

  7. Risk and safety factors that effect participants • There are several risk that one can face while participating in • adventure racing but some of the more common ones are: • Knee, ankle injuries • Ripped or pulled ligaments/ tendons • Fracturing a bone

  8. Modifying Adventure Racing If I would to be able to modify this activity in order to allow young children, the elderlies, and people with special needs I would: • Shorten the races • Less obstacles • No high or long climbs • Little to no biking • Safe and clear paths

  9. Physical health affections • One’s physical health can affect one’s participation in adventure racing in many ways, such as: • Getting tiered quick • Breathing issues • No being able to conquer some of the obstacles • No being able to complete the race
