  2. Situation • You are on a small cruise ship with only 150 passengers aboard. The boat is sailing through the Pacific Ocean when all of a sudden the boat slams into an underwater volcano. Very quickly, the boat begins to sink and you run desperately to the top deck to prepare to leave the ship. • Get in groups of 4 to discuss the next slide.

  3. Lifeboat Dilemma • As passengers jump from the sinking ship you are quickly realize that there are only 3 lifeboats, each with the capacity to hold 25 people. They are unlatched and released into the ocean. • 150 passengers, 3 lifeboats, only 75 can board. • There are 75 1st class passengers, they are placed in the lifeboats, and you are one of them.

  4. Lifeboat Dilemma • Keep this in mind. The boats will capsize if you allow too many people in the boats. • There are still 75 people swimming in the water. What do you do?

  5. Lifeboat Dilemma • In your groups decide the following; • Who do you decide to leave in the water? • Who do you decide to help? • How do you select who to help? • Profession • Age • Gender, etc. • Social status • Sick • Education PROVIDE A RATIONALE FOR YOUR DECISION
