Read page 231 Connection. • Pastoral- Works are set in an idealized countryside, and their characters are often blends of naïve and sophisticated characters. Marlowe’s poems are some of the most famous pastorals.
Read “Passionate Shepherd to His Love” (page 235). • 4 What does the speaker want his love to do? • 8 What will they do? • 12 How is the speaker trying to win her over? • 20 What pleasures is the speaker appealing to? • 24 Do you think she would go live with him? Why/why not? • How is this poem a pastoral? What is left out of this poem? • How is the speaker offering the suggestion to “seize the day”? • What is the effect of the repeated refrain in lines 20 and 24? • Would you be persuaded? Why/why not?
