Welcome to James Hart Mrs. Gnatt's ELA binder! This binder contains materials for English/Language Arts, including the Journey's Textbook, Reader's Notebook, silent reading book, and Novel Units. We will focus on different resources such as reading independently, reading with a partner, working on writing, listening to reading, and spelling and word work. We will also cover shared reading, common core language arts and reading skills, and small group reading. Students will receive a weekly ELA work plan and must achieve a Smartscore of 80 in Language Arts IXL Level H. We will have weekly library visits, so please ensure your child always has a book at their reading level. Independent reading for 20 minutes each night is also encouraged. Important websites include the parent portal, teacher pages, Think Central, and Quizlet. Ways you can help your child include checking assignments, asking about their day, helping them stay organized, assisting with homework, and supporting the teacher. Read to yourself, read to someone, work on writing, listen to reading, spelling and word work. • Shared Reading will be informational text and literature from many different genres. • Common Core Language Art and Reading Skills. Students will receive a weekly ELA workplan Week 1 – Reading and Vocab Week 2 – Spelling, Writing, Language Arts IXL Level H is assigned weekly in Language Arts –Must receive a Smartscore of 80 to get full credit. We will be going to the library to check out books weekly Please make sure your child always has a book at their reading level.
