Weather And Radar Processor • A next generation weather and radar processor which provides integrated weather information to ARTCC controllers, traffic management specialists, and meteorologists • Completed last Operational Readiness Decision (ORD) 12/02 • Alaska Micro-EARTS achieved ORD 6/03 • WARP Service Life Extension Program has begun to address anticipated supportability issues Days after WARP installation “. . .. Integrated Terminal Weather System Provides the terminal with weather prediction and hazardous weather detection ability to help sustain capacity in all weather conditions FY03 Installations Planned deployments for FY04: Boston, Denver, Charlotte, Minneapolis
Corridor Integrated Weather System • A concept demonstration of weather forecast and precipitation tools for traffic management in highly congested area, providing timely, accurate forecasting and common situation awareness across many domains. • FY03 achievements: • Enhanced the 2-hour Regional Convective Weather Forecast to include Storm Growth and Decay • Expanded number of ASR-9 radar connections
Operational and Supportability Implementation System • Service lease to enhance air traffic specialist’s ability to provide flight plan processing, weather briefing information, and search and rescue services in support of general aviation pilots. • FY03 – Installed at 13 Automated Flight Service Stations (AFSSs) and operational at 9 AFSSs • FY04 - Plan to install at 10 more AFSSs for a total of 23 AFSSs • FY05 – Plan to install at 3 more AFSSs for a total of 26 AFSSs. No installations planned past site 26 pending outcome of on-going A-76 Study “ . . Notices To Airmen Distribution Program • Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) provide critical safety information to pilots and other end users. • The NOTAMs Distribution Program will enhance NOTAM distribution to En Route, Terminal, and Flight Service domains. • FY03 Accomplishments • Tested prototype Operational Capability at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center • Installed 16 prototype systems in the Eastern, Southern and Northwest Mountain Regions NOTAMs “. . .the FAA is moving forward in a positive manner toward enabling delivery of pilot services via the Internet . . .” EAA News
