Letter Poems Dear Shakespeare- Why doth thy writings always hurt for grievances over Love? Not all of life and love brings sorrow. Your writings bring feelings unloved. Was that your reason? So all who read may feel a different pain or connection? I understand not why or how you made your writings so similar in those ways yet different in every way. I wish to know the meanings of this genuine nonsense. --JN
Dear Tooth Fairy, I love the money you used to send me, The little presents, The little gifts, I miss you very much, You never come to my house while I’m sleeping, Are you still there? Do you really exist? I would like a sign If you show up I will knock out all of my teeth, Just for you! I’ll do it anyway, Just so I can know that you are there. --TC
Dear Wind, You confuse me. When you push me around I feel weak When you are gone I feel alone When you blow me down I feel nothing When you run your fingers through me leaves I feel loved When you grapple with my my roots I feel strong When you elegantly flow over me I feel tears inside me Why do you toy with my emotions so… Is it for your contentment? Or do you think that I am the one toying with you? Sincerely, Tree
Dear Elvis Presley, Have you really left the building yet? That has always bothered me. Do you still wear your blue suede shoes? I liked that song. I even had a pair of blue suede shoes. Anyways I’m gonna leave the building now. Sincerely, Kyle

Excuses List Poem Every now and then We find these affecting us Watching the results with anticipation At school At Work On the bus To your Parents To your relatives To your closest friends Your ambitions May have been well thought As far as it could possibly go No time No work No need for worry No problem As later always seems Better For the moment take notice There are no truly good excuses Lest they should lose the name And become what we truly desire; the truth --RS
The game never changes- fresh air green grass gliding ball waving nets Yet the players change- the number the jersey the score team color But the passion never changes --MF
HOW TO DRIVE YOUR PARENTS CRAZY (abridged) Leave your junk on every surface passible— The dirtier it is, the better. Drink the last of the milk and put the empty carton back in the fridge. On trips ask “Are we here yet?” in a pathetic whine every five minutes— This is guaranteed to make them pull their hair out. Never use a napkin, especially when eating barbequed chicken. Hide your dirty clothes in the most impossible places to get to, And then complain about your missing laundry. Always leave your bike out directly behind the family car. Play ball inside the house, preferably with one covered in mud. Refuse to eat the crusts of your sandwiches. Light your sister’s dolls on fire with your dad’s lighter, And then blame him for leaving it out. And when your parents finally lose their cool and scream at you, Hug them and tell them you love them— This should confuse them long enough for you to make your escape. If all else fails, be an angel until they’ve finally forgiven you. But tomorrow— Well, that’s another story… --TB

Favorite Poems And the days are not full enough And the nights are not full enough And life slips by like a field mouse Not shaking the grass -Ezra Pound I picked this poem because I felt it is so true not for me at least not right now but when you talk to older folks it seems every one of them talks like this poem was written about them. I think the whole poem is my favorite because one or two lines doesn’t sum up his main idea. There is a rhyme scheme that goes AABC. --CC www.americanpoems.com
A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM (abridged) EDGAR ALLEN POE I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand— How few! yet they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep—while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream? • Edgar Allen Poe is a big hero for me • and I love his poems. • My favorite line is “O God! can I not • save one form the pitiless wave!” • I found allusion, metaphors, and similies. • --WG

To me, poetry is a way of showing how you feel about something in an abstract way. It can be a way to relieve yourself of stress or tension in a way that maybe you understand. I think that poetry can really show what a person is all about and whether you realize it or not your personality shows through what you write.
Sonnet Shall the female race truly be compared to the male? That she may be more beautiful and graceful then understandable: That the lady may be there when the great manmay fail, Surprising even the most arrogant with a feeling unfathomable: That he may suddenly find himself playing Romeo, And all that was his power declines; Trying instead to go tto his newfound sweeethearts flow, And to his utter dismay, he has found a new light that shines; So in turn the events willl naturally occur, never ceasing to fade Yes, it is love that now has struck him blind, She eased into his life, a newfound comfort, a shade When he first had planned the trip, he had no idea the miracle he would find So when we compare these two separately united wraiths We discover quite simply, neither could survive without the others faiths --RS

The Lavender Cow Each morning I wake to the beautiful view of my farm floating through My bedroom window. The smell is absent, as it is never was bad on my ranch, & then I see her: The lavender cow! As I go about my business, I’m doing fine, what would I say if I had you On the line? Perhaps I would tell you tales of my lavender cow. When I sink into the sheets at night, I am greeted by a most wondrous sight. No other sight can bring my happiness back to me as quickly… & then I see her: The lavender cow --MC

I Don’t Understand Poem I don’t understand why people lie why a promise means nothing why the truth hurts. But most of all why people back-stab, why we hate, why we pretend to be what we are not. What I understand most is why I tell the truth, why I never lie, why I am who I am. --KW
