Group Up & Equipment Assignments • Production recording and editing equipment will be provided for use between January 17 - 23. • All equipment must be returned at the end of the session on January 23. • KAUST ID is required to check out any equipment. • Students take responsibility for any damage to the equipment they check out. 9. Basic Production & AV Operation: Lighting Refer to the document “Audio Video Basics” available in the technical packet. Basic LightingFor the purpose of this class use natural lighting or adjust existing room lights Further information on lighting: “Lighting for Video”available in the technical packet. 1 Considerations: Where is the light in the area coming from? For best results the light source should be behind the camera. Tips: Use three point “guerrilla lighting”: Still using the principles of 3 point lighting, look for your primary light source and use the ambience light or reflective materials for the fill and back. Shoot away from strong, white light unless you are consciously creating an artistic halo effect.

12. Return the Camera Equipment All camera equipment must be returned at the beginning of class on January 23.

13. Import Footage from the Camera into iMovie Who has used iMovie before? • Importing Overview • Connect the USB cable from the camera to the computer. • Change the camera mode switch to playback mode. • Choose “PC” on the viewfinder when prompted by the camera. • Opening iMovie should automatically prompt the import dialog box to open, but if it does not, simply click the camera icon in the middle of the screen on the left. • Check the box under the footage you want to import. • Click the Import Checked button at the bottom of the import window.

Import Footage from the Camera into iMovie • Importing Overview (con’t) • Name the new event “Test” • Click the Import button at the bottom of the import window. • Click Ok at the dialog box and click the Done button • Find your footage in the Event Library on the lower left side and in Source Video in the lower center section of iMovie

Basic Editing Tutorial: iMovie Basics • Editing Software Overview • Choose File > New Project • When the dialog box opens name your project • Choose “No Theme,” Widescreen (16:9), 30 fps and click the Create button • After the project opens, choose a portion of the footage • Practice: Drag a portion of the footage into the Project in the upper left • Again: Choose and drag another portion of the footage into the Project • To review your work, use the playback controls or the space bar • Refer to “iMovie 11 Tutorial” document in the class technical packet.

17. Post-Production Tutorial: iMovie Basics • Adding Titles • Add a title by clicking on the Title button • Drag a title to the timeline over the top of a clip OR drag a title to the timeline and choose a title background • Adding Transitions • Click on the Transition button • Drag a transition to the timeline between two clips Practice: Try adding various titles and transitions

18. Post-Production Tutorial: • Video and Photo FX • Adjust the FX and levels on a video by selecting a clip and clicking the info button. • Add a photo & adjust FX on it • Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation Try adding various effects to the video clips in the timeline.

19. Post-Production Tutorial: iMovie Basics Export your completed video in the correct format: Choose Share > Export Movie Choose the file name and directory to save the file Choose HD 1080p Click export
