Attendance at Women’s Tennis Matches By: Brett Carlson and Jackson Wright
Issue: Women’s Tennis Attendance • Recent conference champions who went to the state playoffs. • They are led by coach Pratt who is an AP Human Geography teacher. • We chose women’s tennis because they need help promoting their team and attracting new fans to come to their games.
Identify Problem • The attendance at women’s tennis matches is very low and people have no desire to watch them. • They don’t promote their games to the students as well as other sports. • Our purpose of research is to figure out who goes to women’s tennis matches and why. Knowing this will help us determine how to help out the team. • We want to know the reason why people don’t go to AK women’s tennis matches and why they go to other teams’ games. This will help us determine how we can improve AK women’s tennis attendance.

Analyze Data • From the data we can conclude that most people do not attend the tennis matches because there is not a strong student social presence at the tennis matches and if there was there would be more students there. Also we can conclude that there must be some incentive for students to start going to the matches to get others to come also. • Some facts that stood out • 33% of the surveyed students said they attend tennis matches the least out of any of the sports. • 67% of the students said they would attend tennis matches more if there were prizes or if more people went • VanVeen said that only about 10 people go to the tennis matches and most of them are parents • The team was 17-2 and still not many students went • Not only our school, many female sports organizations have trouble getting attendance compared to male sports organizations
Recommend Solutions • Solution 1: Give out free $5 gift cards to those who win a raffle by buying a ticket. • Solution 2: Have the student council organize a support group to help cheer for the team on at the games and go on the announcements to get other students to join them. • Solution3: Have a punch card that if a student comes to a certain amount of matches they can get a free ArdreyKell t-shirt or free food.
