Lok Sabha Elections Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Introduced A New Mobile Application Called Know Your Candidate (KYC) DESCRIPTION Before declaring the dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar launched a new smartphone app named 'Know Your Candidate' (KYC). This app will allow voters to see if any electoral candidates in their constituency have any criminal history. Transparency For Voters Kumar stated that voters have the right to know about the criminal history of candidates in their areas, as well as their assets and liabilities. "Voters can now see for themselves the assets and liabilities that candidates with criminal backgrounds have. "All relevant information in this regard will be made available through this application," he added. Availability On Platforms The KYC app is now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms. How The Application Works The poll panel chief explained the new mobile application, saying, "We have developed a new mobile application that will allow voters to determine whether a candidate running for Lok Sabha has a criminal record. "The application is called 'Know Your Candidate' or 'KYC'." Accountability Of Parties
He went on to say that the parties fielding such candidates will have to explain why they made the decision, and those with a criminal record will have to bring all relevant material to light. Mandatory Disclosures "Candidates with a criminal record are required to publish or make public this information in newspapers on television thrice," the person in charge of the poll said. "The parties that provide tickets to such contaminated politicians must explain why they chose them over other, more deserving candidates. "They have to clearly state the basis for selecting a candidate with a criminal background," Kumar added. App Availability The Know Your Candidate (KYC) app is accessible on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, according to the Election Commission's website, which also includes a QR code for downloading the software.
