Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually Inaugurated India s Inaugural Integrated Oil Palm Processing Unit DESCRIPTION Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched India's first integrated oil palm processing factory, operated by 3F Oil Palm, a key step toward the country's goal of self-sufficiency in edible oils. This initiative, located in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, is associated with Mission Palm Oil as part of the National Mission on Edible Oils - Oil Palm. Inauguration And Operation Commencement ● On March 9, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the oil palm processing complex, ushering in commercial operations. Project Components ● The integrated Oil Palm project consists of a cutting-edge oil palm factory (Palm Oil Processing and Refinery), a zero-discharge effluent plant, and a palm waste-based power plant, as well as supporting structures and godowns. Mission Palm Oil And Economic Development ● This effort is a critical step in achieving Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency in edible oils) and empowering farmers, particularly in the Northeast. Investment & Job Creation ● 3F Oil Palm has invested Rs 100 crore in the region, with plans to invest Rs 1100 crore by 2030, creating jobs for 1,700 people.

Potential And Current Use ● Arunachal Pradesh alone has identified 1,30,000 hectares of appropriate land for oil palm agriculture, with the Northeast region accounting for 33% (9.6 lakh hectares) of the allocated area. However, only 4% of this potential has been realized through oil palm development. Addressing Import Dependency ● India now imports 96% of its required palm oil, accounting for 67% of the country's edible oil import bill, which exceeds Rs. 1 lakh crore. The NMEO-Oil Palm Policy seeks to lessen this dependence by encouraging domestic cultivation, particularly in the Northeast.
