Who we are • We are Australia’s first charity • We are an independent, non-religious organisation established in 1813 • We have been a catalyst for social change for 200 years, tackling some of Australia’s most difficult issues • eg. Lobbying to abolish child labour and campaigning for the introduction of the old age pension • Through our work we help people to change their lives • Through our advocacy work we influence policy to fight for a fairer Australia
Fostering Young Lives • The Fostering Young Lives program started being developed in 2006 and went live in July 2009, with our first referral in September 2009 • General Foster Care and Kinship Care • 0 – 18 years • We’ll Hold Your Hand While You Hold Theirs
Fostering Friends • Fostering Friends is a way we are supporting children that live in foster care or kinship care. • Volunteers spend time with them on a regular basis, build a relationship, share interests and work towards building confidence, social skills,and self esteem – those things a child needs to thrive.
Fostering Friends • Metro Central first commenced program at the end of 2010 • First application for Fostering Friends in February 2011
Fundraising • Fundraising for last 12 months and now rolling out the program in South West and West region as well • Art Dinner • Sahara Desert run • Other donations
