Caldecott Award • Awarded annually to the artist of picture books • Works must be submitted for consideration, deadline December 31st of the publication year • Association for Library Service to Children is in charge to give this award • In 1937 Rene Paul Chambellan designed the medal • Named after a London children’s book artist of the 19th century: Randolph Caldecott

The House in the Night • Book won the Caldecott Award due to her special technique of illustration • Beth Krommes used scratchboard technique for all her illustrations • Scratchboard is a cardboard with a white clay coating, then covered with a layer of black ink • Beth Krommes scratches and draws white lines through the black board
