Post – Feminismhttp://www.zazzle.com/feminism+gifts • Post-feminism describes a range of viewpoints reacting to feminism. • The term was initially conjured up in the 80’s to describe repercussion to the second- wave of feminism. Post- feminism is now a word which is used to describe a wide range of theories that take a critical approach to the challenges that the second – wave presented • One of feminism's primary concerns is reproductive rights, such as access to contraception and abortion. According to Baumgardner and Richards, "It is not feminism’s goal to control any woman’s fertility, only to free each woman to control her own". • South Dakota’s 2006 attempt to ban abortion in all cases, except when necessary to protect the mother's life, and the US Supreme Court's recent vote to uphold the partial birth abortion ban are viewed by many feminists as restrictions on women’s civil and reproductive rights. • The English Language also remains a controversial topic whereby words such as spinster, bitch, whore, and cunt continue to be used in derogatory ways about women. Inga Muscio writes, "I posit that we’re free to seize a word that was kidnapped and co-opted in a pain-filled, distant, past, with a ransom that cost our grandmothers’ freedom, children, traditions, pride, and land.“ • Third-wave feminists believe it is better to change the meaning of a sexist word than to censor it from speech.
Representations within media Some contemporary feminists, such as Katha Pollitt or Nadine Strossen, consider feminism to hold simply that "women are people". Part of taking back the word bitch was fueled by the 1999 book Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women by Elizabeth Wurtzel. In the successful declaration of the word bitch, Wurtzel introduces her philosophy: "I intend to scream, shout, race the engine, call when I feel like it, throw tantrums in Bloomingdale's if I feel like it and confess intimate details about my life to complete strangers. I intend to do what I want to do and be whom I want to be and answer only to myself: that is, quite simply, the bitch philosophy." • Here are recent songs within the media that promote the feminist, strength approach. They present women as being the overall decision makers and their choices and actions; command the outcomes of the situations that are in. • Song: Irreplaceable by Beyonce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRhZl-hVyDA • Like a boy by Ciara http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFRuUJR4LPI The song “IF I WAS A BOY” arguably presents they was in which society is governed by the patriarchal influence, today or previously. Or does it present society as moving from away from this era? Song: If I was a boy by Beyonce http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVTyLqkez6A

Lily Allen • Due to her outspokenness, Allen has been the subject of many controversies. Disparaging remarks about musicians Luke Pritchard of The Kooks, Bob Geldof, Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue and Katy Perry have all garnered minor press attention. She later said that making fun of other pop stars was a result of a lack of confidence, saying "I felt like 'Oh God, I'm short, fat, ugly and I hate all these people who flaunt their beauty.'"[Photos of her drunk and topless in the Cannes Film Festival were also widely covered in the press. Her appearance at the 2008 Glamour Awards of the Year also generated criticism, as she showed up intoxicated with a dress depicting decapitated Bambi figures, and had an on-stage, expletive-laced exchange with Elton John.
