Eemland • Characteristics: • Very religious people • Influence of the Southern Sea (in the past) • - many floods in the past - last: 1916 - because of floods: “waaien” (holes made by the swirling sea) - near “waaien” very productive earth • - Old ditches/watercourses (exploitation about 1100)
Eemland Consolidation by land development plan:re-allotment based on a public plan with an agricultural claim (voting by land-owners) 1. Agriculture (better situation very necessary) 2. Nature 3. Recreation
Eemland - Agriculture • 97 % of total area Eemland is grassland, used for cows (meat- and milk-production) • Bad situation: reallotment very necessary:A lot of owners have parcels on both sides of river Eem • Farms near river Eem and near villagesalso INSIDE the villages
Eemland - Agriculture Ferry: important for owners; more times a day crossing the river with tractor, cows, milk etc.
Eemland - Agriculture Moving farms:First plan : 100 Final plan : 49 In reality : 32
Eemland - Agriculture Farm inside village Bunschoten
Eemland – Agriculture • Very important: Good water-regulation • New pumping-stations are build
Eemland – Nature • Saving the emptyness: a lot of grassland-birds • Saving flora and fauna: - near the river “Eem” - near “Eemmeer” (Lake Eem => Southern Sea)
Eemland – Recreation • In the past: hardly any recreation possibilities • Because of land development: - sailing - fishing - wind-surfing - skating - cycling - small beach
