CAI-Asia and Fuel Quality • Roots of CAI-Asia are in mobile sources: TA 5937– which resulted in the ADB Policy Guidelines on Reducing Vehicle Emissions in Asia • Launch of Dialogue on Fuel Quality with Oil Companies in July 2003 in Singapore • Training workshop on Fuel Quality Roadmaps in October 2003 in Sydney, Australia • Participation in JPEC Seminars on fuel quality • Sub-Workshop sessions in BAQ workshops
CAI-Asia Fuel Quality Team • Michael Walsh: Fuels and Vehicles • John Courtis: Production of Cleaner Fuels • Grant Boyle: Pricing and Incentives for Cleaner Fuels Supported by Herbert Fabian and Cornie Huizenga of the CAI-Asia Secretariat and inspired by the past CAI-Asia Chair Dr. Supat Wangwongwatana and current Chair Kong Ha.
Workshop Objective Consensus on how Asian countries can move forward in the introduction of cleaner fuels* * The workshop focuses on gasoline and diesel. Biofuels will be discussed in the second workshop this week.
Workshop Process • Presentations by CAI-Asia Fuel Quality team based on discussions with stakeholders and supportive research • Presentations by experts and stakeholder representatives • Plenary discussions • Working group discussions: Consultation Draft: Roadmaps for Cleaner Fuels in Asia • Informal discussions – lunches, breaks and cocktail reception Monday evening
What comes after the workshop • Results of discussions in the workshop and the comments received will be integrated in the report • Final conclusions and recommendations will be presented to the First Governmental Meeting on Urban Air Quality, 13-14 September in Indonesia • Final consensus will form the basis for policy dialogue on cleaner fuels and vehicles by CAI-Asia and its local networks.
