Declaration of the Rights of the Child Adopted by the League of Nations 1923 The Child must be • given the means for its normal material and spiritual development • that is hungry must be fed; is sick must be helped; backward must be encouraged; delinquent must be reclaimed; the orphan and the waif must be sheltered and succored • the first to receive relief in times of distress • in a position to earn a livelihood and protected from all forms of exploitation • brought up in the consciousness that its talents must be directed to the service of its fellow men
