  1. Galileo Galilei Created by; Diana AguilarJohnna RamosBaylie Glass 1564 - 1642

  2. Galileo’s History • He had three children named were Loretta , Jade and Nina • was a Italian physicist ,mathematician , astronomer and philosopher who played a major role in the scientific revolution • His achievements include improvements to the telescope , and consequent astronomical observations and support for the copermicanism. • He has been called the father of modern physics.

  3. Lo , Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Galilean Moons Periods of Rotation & Revolution around Jupiter: Europa had a 3,5 day revolution around Jupiter, same with its rotation. Lo: Has a 1.7 day revolution, its tidal locked, meaning it has the same rotation time. Ganymede: 7.5 days, tidal locked with Jupiter. Callisto: 16.7 days, same as its rotation. Physical Properties: History: They were named by Simon Marius.

  4. Galileo's Major Accomplishments & Awards: 1597: Constructed a military compass. Brought him acclaim and a substantial income. 1609: Built a ‘telescope’ (Although he was not the first to do so.) This enabled him to: See craters on the moon, which previously thought to be a smooth sphere. Discover four moons around Jupiter, the only planet to have a moon was earth. Observe Venus shows phases (just like the moon of Earth.) & 1610:Publish his findings in a book called Sidereus Nuncius (The Sidereal Messenger).

  5. What He Did For Astronomy It was in 1609, that Galileo observed the moons of Jupiter, now known as the Galilean Moons, which he recorded in his treatise, the Sidereus Nuncius, published in 1610. The observation was very controversial as it proved that Earth was not the only center of movement in the universe. It also lent support to the idea that Earth moved around the Sun, a heretical belief which eventually led to Galileo's imprisonment.

  6. Our Quiz ~ • 1. What are the names of ALL of Jupiter’s moons? • 2. How many moons does Jupiter have? • 3. Who discovered Galilean Moons? • 4. When did he discover them? • 5. When did he die?
