  1. Luke 17:20-21 20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. This promise was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ because, though offered, the kingdom was rejected by Israel and, thus, it was postponed until the second coming of Christ” (Thomas Ice and Timothy Demy called Prophecy Watch). • First, the kingdom that Jesus promised was spiritual • In the beginningof His ministry, Jesus taught that the kingdom was spiritual in natural (Jn. 3:1-5). • In the endof His ministry, Jesus taught that the kingdom was spiritual in natural (Jn. 18:33-38).

  2. First, he said that His kingdom is not of this world (ver. 36). The Nature of the Kingdom • Second, Jesus never planned to set up His kingdom by force (ver. 36). Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. This promise was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ because, though offered, the kingdom was rejected by Israel and, thus, it was postponed until the second coming of Christ” (Thomas Ice and Timothy Demy called Prophecy Watch). • Third, Pilate found no fault with Jesus (ver. 38). 18:33-38).

  5. The Nature of the Kingdom Matt 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. This promise was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ because, though offered, the kingdom was rejected by Israel and, thus, it was postponed until the second coming of Christ” (Thomas Ice and Timothy Demy called Prophecy Watch). • First, the kingdom that Jesus promised was spiritual • Second, Jesus didn’t offera kingdom, • He promiseda kingdom

  6. Mark 1:14-15 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. 7. Mark 9:1 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power." The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible.

  9. Hal Lindsey, The New World Coming: “Had the people received Him, He would have fulfilled the kingly prophecies in their day in addition to the ones regarding the suffering Messiah. But when the Jewish nation as a whole rejected Christ, the fulfillment of His kingship was postponeduntil the final culmination of world history. The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. This promise was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ because, though offered, the kingdom was rejected by Israel and, thus, it was postponeduntil the second coming of Christ” (Thomas Ice and Timothy Demy called Prophecy Watch). • First, the kingdom that Jesus promised was spiritual • Second, Jesus didn’t offera kingdom, • He promiseda kingdom • Third, Jesus never postponedthe kingdom

  10. John Walvoord, The Millennial Kingdom: “As late as Acts 1:6, the disciples were still looking for a literal kingdom. While refused revelation concerning the ‘time’ of the kingdom, their hope is not denied, spiritualized, or transferred to the church. The kingdom hope is postponedand the new age of which they never dreamed was interposed, but the promises continue undimmed. Israel’s day of glory is yet to come and the Christ will reign on earth.” The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible.

  11. Charles Ryrie, Dispensationalism Today: “To sum up: The cross is in no way minimized by the teaching of the postponementof the kingdom. The postponementrelates to the outworking of God’s purpose in the Church, the Body of Christ, and certainly the cross is central to this work of God.” The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible.

  12. If the kingdom was postponed, Jesus still failed to do what He came to do. • If the kingdom was postponed, the prophets were wrong about the time the kingdom would be established (Dan. 2:44-45; Dan. 7:14). The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presence and rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. This promise was not fulfilled in the first coming of Jesus Christ because, though offered, the kingdom was rejected by Israel and, thus, it was postponed until the second coming of Christ” (Thomas Ice and Timothy Demy called Prophecy Watch). • If you say the prophets spoke of a twenty-first century establishment of the kingdom, Jesus was wrong about the time, for He said the “time is fulfilled.” Now you have to choose between Jesus and the prophets. Any position that sets the prophets against Jesus cannot be right and should be immediately rejected. • First, the kingdom that Jesus promised was spiritual • Second, Jesus didn’t offera kingdom, • He promiseda kingdom • Third, Jesus never postponedthe kingdom

  13. The Nature of the Kingdom Premillennialists Look for a Physical Kingdom “An earthly kingdom with a physical presenceand rule by the Messiah-King is foretold throughout the Bible. 14. The Nature of the Kingdom • A Scriptural View of the Kingdom • Jesus did what He said He was going to do—He set up a kingdom (Mk. 9:1). • That kingdom has been here since the first century (Col. 1:13). • The kingdom is spiritual in nature and is indeed the church (Matt. 16:18-19). • When Jesus comes back it will be to deliver the kingdom to God (1 Cor. 15:24).
