1 ADVANCING AI CAPABILITIES WITH NEXT-GENERATION HPC SOLUTIONS In this evolving digital economy, data is the cornerstone of success. Big Data is redefining the way we think, act, and understand the world, and accelerating insight is the difference between making the next major discovery and missing it. The more information we can effectively capture, analyze, and act on, the more opportunities there are to drive technological advancements, ensure economic control, strengthen national security, and fuel scientific research. Organizations across all sectors are putting this data to work. They are optimizing their IT operations and enhancing the way they communicate, learn, and grow their businesses in order to harness the full power of artificial intelligence (AI). ARTICLE
2 DEEP LEARNING INFERENCE ON P40 AND P4 The PowerEdgeTM R740 is Dell EMC’s latest generation 2-socket, 2U rack server designed to run complex workloads using highly scalable memory, I/O, and network options. The system features the Intel Xeon Processor Scalable Family (architecture codenamed Skylake-SP), up to 24 DIMMs, PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 enabled expansion slots, and a choice of network interface technologies to cover NIC and rNDC. The PowerEdge R740 is a general-purpose platform capable of handling demanding workloads and applications, such as data warehouses, ecommerce, databases, and high performance computing (HPC). It supports up to 3 Tesla P40 GPUs or 4 Tesla P4 GPUs. BLOG
3 STANFORD UNIVERSITY HPC SUMMER SERIES 2017 Stanford University’s High Performance Computing Center, in collaboration with fellow members of the HPC Advisory Council and the OpenPOWER Foundation, invite you to the 2nd Annual Stanford Summer Series. Register today! This summer’s syllabus, comprised of four individual Industry Leadership Sessions, focuses instruction on ‘State of the Art Architectures for HPC’. REGISTER
4 HARNESSING DATA INSIGHTS TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION In an age of ongoing digital advancement, leaders across all industries are seeking new ways to improve workplace productivity, ensure competitive advantage, and facilitate continued growth. Success hinges on their ability to accelerate time to value, and work more efficiently and effectively than the competition. Innovation and sustainability are key. This is particularly true for the energy, oil, and gas (EOG) sector. As the global economy progressively moves away from fossil fuels in search of renewable resources, EOG companies are challenged to operate faster and smarter than ever before. Many organizations are utilizing high performance computing (HPC) technologies in order to streamline business operations—from analyzing troves of subsurface data and exploring known energy reserves, to discovering new resources and optimizing production.
