Benefits • Better taste, smell, & look • Higher Nutrient content • Grows faster & lasts longer • Cost efficient & beneficial
Genetically Modified Grown Naturally
The Grapple • Genetic cross between a apple & a grape. • Was originally designed to provide a higher dose of Vitamin C per fruit, for use in food aid • Most of the funding for its development came from UNICEF
Why Not? • Allergies • Alter Ecosystems • Endanger Species • Patenting crops • Ethical Implications • Creates Surplus • Lack of Labeling Laws
Labeling • In Europe all GM foods must be labeled by law • In Canada there is no mandatory labeling of GM foods (only done voluntarily)
Ingredients • The most common GM crops are soybeans, canola, cotton & corn • Used in many processed foods
