  1. Please make sure you have a textbook and be seated at the bell. Day 1 Today, we will read a poem and examine it for imagery. Please turn to page 868 of the textbook. We will read the poem and discuss its meaning. You will then be given the written assignment for today’s lesson. Ozymandias, by Shelley

  2. This chart and essay will be graded. Imagery Create a chart like this and fill it out with as many images as you can find (at least five). You will then write a one-page essay discussing the images you see in the poem and how you relate to them. You may not include the example as one of your images.

  3. Days 2 and 3 There’s no need for your Writer’s Notebook. Just make sure you have textbook for this assignment. Turn to page 868. Today, I want you to learn that for every piece of literature, there is a “real world” connection. We will look at the meaning of the poem and discuss connections to our experiences.

  4. Pride Goes Before a FallDays 2 and 3 The assignment: Use your technology or the computers in the classroom to research people who were boastful in public about being successful or highly intelligent, but have “fallen from grace.” Think about music or movie personalities, politicians, corporate executives (Justin Bieber, Lyndsay Lohan, Barney Madoff, Bill Clinton, Benedict Arnold) who were on top, but fell out of public favor. You may even choose historical figures. Create a T-chart that shows before and after: Before _______After

  5. Essay Due Thursday, April 24 Use the information you have found about a person who told the world he/she was “the greatest,” but later was proven to be not so great, and write an essay. You must somehow allude to the poem, Ozymandias. You will be graded for your use of imagery in the essay and for the presentation (neatness, capitalization, spelling). Attach the T-chart to the back of your essay.
