  1. What is the Role of Optometrists? Taking good care of your eyes is important, and shouldn’t be overlooked. An Optometrist is there to help you do so. This is an eye specialist who can help you with your vision. However, they do far more than just that. They can also evaluate your eyes after an injury, they can help with a treatment plan due to ocular disease, and they may refer you to a specialist. It is important to find such a specialist you can count on. They should be accessible, have the right education, offer a relaxing atmosphere, and have the right equipment to perform necessary testing. You want to feel like your needs are a top priority when you come in for your appointment. Make sure you listen to the feedback from the professional about your eyes. If they recommended treatment, identify why they feel it is necessary. Get any questions you may have answered before you leave the office. Should you think of something later on though, pick up the phone and give them a call so they can further assist you. Routine Checkups You should see your optometrist at least once a year. This allows them to evaluate your vision. It allows them to determine if any underlying issues need to be investigated further. They are going to check your pressure, make sure you don’t have signs of eye disease, and talk to you about anything they may be concerned about. Such an exam takes about an hour, and it can provide a wealth of information about your vision needs. In some instances, there will be concerns that they aren’t going to immediately act upon. For example, if you have floaters in your eyes, they will take a wait and see approach. The issue may correct itself. If it doesn’t by you follow up appointment, they can talk about treatment. Corrective Lenses If you wear corrective lenses, your Optometrist can help you to get the right prescription. Each of your eyes can be different from each other. The lenses will

Such corrective lenses can also prevent your vision from progressively getting worse. Injuries If you experience an injury to your eye or your eyes, immediate treatment is essential. Don’t put off the care of an Optometrist and that can hinder your recovery. They will fully evaluate the eyes and give you a treatment plan. They may need to see you often until the eye or eyes have healed from such an injury. Each type of injury can be different, and that means specialised care. Make sure you fully follow the recovery instructions given to you. This will speed up the healing process and give you the best chance of a full recovery. You don’t want to lose vision abilities due to any injury. Treatment Plans for Ocular Disease Eye issues, known as ocular diseases, are more prevalent than most people realise. It isn’t just the elderly that struggle with such issues either. Early intervention and treatment can stop them in their tracks. A treatment plan with your Optometrist can preserve your vision. It can also prevent the problem from progressing to the point where you need surgery. Referrals to Specialists Some eye care needs are deemed beyond the spectrum of what an Optometrist can do. They will then need to refer a patient to a specialist. This can ensure they can get the ongoing care they need for advanced eye issues. The specialist will work closely with the Optometrist to offer the highest level of care. About Us: Your vision is too precious not to pay attention to it.
