  3. An adjective is a word that modifies, or describes, anounor pronoun. • Most adjectives come BEFORE the nouns they modify. • Adjectives help you see, feel, taste, hear, and smell all the experiences you read about.

  4. “Sound” Adjectives Listen to the sound and write a sentence using appropriate adjectives. Highlight your adjectives. 1. 2. 3.

  5. Articles • The most commonly used adjectives are the Articles a, an, & the. • A and an are used with singular nouns. Use abefore a consonant; use an before a vowel.

  6. A Predicate Adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and modifies the subject of the sentence. The building is decorated. Some architects are skillful and creative. A volcanic eruption is violent.

  7. How do I find Predicate Adjectives? 1. Determine whether the sentence’s verb is a linking verb. • If it is, look for an adjective that follows it and answers the question: Which one? What kind? How many?

  8. Common Linking Verbs • Forms of be: be, is, am, are, was, were, been, being • Verbs that express condition: appear, become, feel, grow, look, seem, smell, sound, remain, taste

  9. Predicate Adjectives Write a sentence using 2 of these “condition” linking verbs and a predicate adjective. appear, become, feel, grow, look, seem, smell, sound, remain, taste Example: The lava looks thick. Lava becomeshard when it cools.
