Cause and effect • The answers to “How”, “Why, and “What if” explores the cause and effect. Example: • Why do we have a generation of overweight kids? • Too many cheeseburgers? • Not enough basketball? • Video games?
No Simple Answer • The questions we choose to explore do not ask for simple answers…we need more depth & research before we get to the conclusion. • It’s just plain hard to say precisely which factors, past or present, account for a particular event, activity, or behavior. And it’s even tougher to project how events or actions occurring today might affect the future. Trying to explain things to other people will quickly teach you humility- even if you don’t jump to hasty conclusion (140).
Understanding C & E Cause: Happens first- The reason, or motive, for an action and why something happens Effect: Happens after cause – the result, or consequence, of an action. Cause Effect
Examples (1 cause) Effect Classes were canceled for the day. Anorexia and eating disorders are increasing among young women. Cause There was no water at the Colegiolast week. Fashion Magazines are read mostly by teenagers
