Collaboration Café Review • Topics • “Doing More with Less”- David Loyd • “Roadmap for Safety & Occupational Health”-Sue Otero • “Partnering with Outside Safety & Occupational Health Organizations” – Tom Eye, Jerry Piasecki and Vanessa Pellegrino • Suggestions and ideas were prioritized by SDOHM participants • Criteria used to prioritize recommendations • Within the scope of OSMA/SARD/NSC missions • Achievable and reasonable • Greatest good for the greatest number • Followed up with quarterly briefings
Doing More with Less #1 • IDEA: Identify opportunities in the Audit process to reduce time and manpower requirements- “overlapping areas” • ACTION: Mimi Lau, Director, A&A in the NSC, proposed several recommendations to OSMA in March, 2012 recommendation • RESULTS: The proposed changes were accepted in May, 2012 and integrated into the Audit processes
Doing More with Less #2 • IDEA: Minimize and reduce SMA/OH oversight requirements • Examine NASA personnel requirements related to Construction projects • Determine process for assessing cost/benefit of exceeding regulatory requirements • ACTION: Developed a Construction Safety Managers Manager’s Working Group • RESULTS: Meet every 4th Thursday of the month. Two meetings to date. Reps from each Center. Looking to put forward a NSC Knowledge Now site.
Roadmap for OS and OH #1 • IDEA: Facilitate awareness and availability of SMA/OH resources to all Centers • ACTIONS: • Develop a process to facilitate a detail duty w/ another Center • Create a matrix of key Center OS/OH resources • Identify current SMA/OH contractors working at each Center • RESULTS: • Developed a resource request process. Jerry Piasecki will brief. • Matrix of resources- Completed May, online in OS CoP, updated Nov • Current SMA/OH contractors- We have collected and combined this information with the above resource matrix and it is posted on the NSC web page https://nsc.nasa.gov/Disciplines/OperationalSafety
Roadmap for OS and OH #2 • IDEA: Dialog with Agency OSMA Leadership • ACTIONS: Document questions, comment and concerns of Agency SMA/OH practitioners • RESULTS: • Gerry Schumann will continue to maintain open door policy and provide avenues to other OSMA leadership
Partner with outside OS/OH Orgs #1 • IDEA: Partner with DoD, Government, and industry Safety Centers • ACTIONS: • NSCKN CoP of Agency SMA/OH orgs- MAY 2012 • Partner with DoD, Government and industry SMA/OH orgs- JUL 2012 • Conduct Quarterly WebEx with community members- OCT 2012 • RESULTS: • Online CoP in May, 2012 • Mike Lipka will update on Safety and Health Learning Alliance
Partner with outside OS/OH Orgs #2 • IDEA: Coordinating knowledge sharing across the Agency • ACTIONS: • Consolidate Agency relationships w/ outside Safety orgs • Solicit Agency SMA/OH presentations and other resources • Update on Center’s local partnering opportunities • RESULTS: • Consolidating Agency relationships w/ outside organizations: National Safety Council, USAF, USN and OSHA • NPR 8621.1 Pause & Learn session in Mar, Best of the Best on Safety Days In Dec • SMA/OH presentations added to OS community of practice • Center’s local partnering opportunities culled from final OSHA Report
Parking Lot Issue #1 • IDEA: Create an IRIS Guidebook • ACTIONS: • Identify “Best Practices” to the scope for the development of the IRIS Guide Book • Finish online Help and Desktop Guide for IRIS • RESULTS: • Delayed IRIS Guidebook in lieu of 8621.1 NPR rewrite • Need to ensure taxonomy matches
Parking Lot Issue #2 • IDEA: Determine Commercialization involvement by NASA Safety and Health, including lease agreement, standardizing process, enhancing our creditability, and legal issues • RESULTS: • Procurement, OSMA, and Legal are working on standardized approach for the Agency • Gerry discussed at Safety Directors Meeting to kick-start conversations on this. • Gerry has looked at IFO Audits to see what different Centers are doing
Summary of Collaboration Café Results for 2012 • Changes made in audit process to reduce time and manpower requirements • Developed a Construction Safety Managers Manager’s Working Group to minimize and reduce SMA/OH oversight requirements • Developed a resource request process for short term project support and access to expertise • Created a matrix of Center resources and current SMA/OH contractors • Maintained open door policy and provided avenues to other OSMA leadership
Summary of Collaboration Café Results for 2012 • Partnering with DoD, Government, and industry Safety Centers through the creation of the Safety & Health Learning Alliance • Coordinated knowledge sharing across the Agency by identifying contacts • Consolidated Agency relationships w/ outside organizations: National Safety Council, USAF, USN • Hosted internal knowledge sharing events such as NPR 8621.1 Pause & Learn and Safety Days knowledge sharing event • Identified Center’s local partnering opportunities culled from final OSHA Report
