To move west • Cherokee nation sues in fed. Ct. • Marshall decides they could not sue because they were “domestic dependent nation”
Worcester v. Georgia recognizes rights of Cherokee’s to live in Georgia and gov’t couldn’t invade • “Marshall made his decision, now let him enforce it” • Treaty of Echota= traded land in georgie for land in Oklahoma • Maj. Of Cherokee’s did not agree and refused to leaveUS army forces them out
Trail of Tears= 800 mile journey, mostly made by foot, in which thousands of Cherokee died
