  1. Overview/Update J. Tompkins, FNAL RDR Magnet Systems Group Teleconference 061116 J. Tompkins

  2. J. Tompkins Brief OverviewS(ame) O(ld) B(lather) • Meeting topics: • Review of Valencia • Ryuhei – Summary • Mark – Damping Rings • Paul – Power Systems • Updates on • “Working Assumptions” • Cost Estimate Time Scale • Cost Estimate Progress • RDR Writing • In progress, requests coming in from Area Leaders - Mike will discuss

  3. J. Tompkins SOB, cont. • Cost Standardization • Some additional information received • Labor rates from Japan • LBNL labor rates • Still waiting for lamination cost data from FNAL procurement folks • Cost Estimate Schedule Change: Yes, the time is short, so the RDR Management Team has set a deadline to submit these updated cost estimates (after all the necessary AS-GS/TS give-and-take) to the Cost Engineers by close of business on Tuesday, November 21. We regret the quick deadline, but that’s what it will take to prepare for the SLAC review. We assume that the relevant cost information is already available or can be readily scaled from existing numbers to produce the new IWS estimate. Please let me know if this is not the case for your system group or if you will have difficulty meeting the above deadline.

  4. J. Tompkins Cost Estimate Schedule Change, cont. • What can we do • We will not be able to get anything new done by 11/21 • We need to consolidate many recent revisions, changes, updates • New numbers of already existing magnet styles • Changes which require new styles • Estimate cost by scaling from similar style or interpolating between closest styles… - SWAG estimates for magnets which do not fall in the ‘similar style’ category • Review the “Basis of Estimate” placeholders I constructed for Valenica and add details

  5. J. Tompkins Cost Estimate Schedule Change, cont. • Very short term plan • We need to collect all the cost data in ONE workbook (many sheets) • All conventional magnets should use our standard naming conventions • Capture all new data • Place in a uniform format • Attempt to separate materials and labor costs, where they exist • Labor hours wherever available • Identify what is missing and make sure that there are ‘placeholders’ • ED&I estimates need to be included • Use our existing table of ED&I categories • Calculate inspection/test cost based on number of magnets

  6. J. Tompkins Cost Estimate Schedule Change, cont • Specific Areas • Kickers, septum, and pulsed magnets • Can these estimates be put in a spreadsheet format for each Area System? • Damping Ring Magnets • Revised wiggler costs? • Latest version of magnet numbers • RTML • New numbers of magnets • e+ source • Changes in xfer line magnet number, beam energy?

  7. J. Tompkins Cost Estimate Schedule Change, cont • Specific Areas, cont. • Main Linac • Revised number of quads and correctors • Stands, Movers • No changes possible on this time scale • Guidance • This, unfortunately, is not a Dilbert cartoon: • “it’s a impossible deadline…”, so obviously, the solution is to “move the deadline sooner…” • Don’t say what you really think… • “They” already know it, but it won’t be heard
