  2. Important Body Parts • Teeth are used to kill and stab prey • Claws are used to grip prey • Eyes are used for seeing at night. Tigers eyes are six times better than humans. • Ears, Tigers have white spots behind their ears to identify one another at night.

  3. Interesting Facts • The tiger can kill a buffalo that weighs more than 1,980 pounds. That is nearly four times it’s own weight. • In 1973 the Indian government and the World Wide Fund for Nature started a plan to save tigers called “Project Tiger”.

  4. Vital Statistics • A tiger weighs about 495 pounds. • A Siberian tiger can reach more than ten feet long. • Tigers can have up to four babies. • A tiger usually eats forty pounds of meat. • If not disturbed by humans, a tiger may live up to 20 years. • A tiger lives in India.

Hunting • A tiger usually sneaks close to its prey by hiding behind bushes, trees, or large rocks. • Then the tiger leaps to attack from behind it’s prey. • The tiger grabs it’s prey with it’s claws and pulls it’s prey to the ground. • The tiger will bite the animal on it’s throat or on the back of it’s neck.

  6. Hunting • The tiger will grab the prey and drag it into the brush. • What the tiger can’t eat , is buried to save for another meal.

  7. Conservation • Yes, the tiger is hunted by man • It is hunted for sport • It is also hunted for its beautiful, stripped coat • The tiger is endangered

Behavior • The tiger lives alone unless they are bringing up cubs. • When a tiger’s tail is straight up and wags it slowly, it means “I’m friendly”. • When the tail lashes rapidly from side to side, it means “I’m excited”. • A lowered tail that twitches from side to side means “ Watch your step, I’m tense”.
