  3. What’s a Nugget? • “A nugget is a component that presents a module of data that can be added to a portal page. Nuggets are synonymous with channels in some other portal systems.” – ANGEL 7.3 Administrator Reference • Box within ANGEL that contains information or performs a function.

  4. CMS at Buffalo State • CMS is ANGEL • Adopted in 2005 • Currently on Version 7.3 • Hosted with ANGEL Learning (Blackboard) • All courses in ANGEL … • … but not all faculty/classes use ANGEL

  6. Library at Buffalo State • ≈ 35,000 journals • ≈ 200 databases • 12 Reference librarians • Actively maintained web site • Myriad online guides • Multiple virtual reference avenues

  7. Nugget Origins • Reference librarian disturbed by Google default in ANGEL • Wanted more library integration with ANGEL courses • SUNY COCID - Library2LMS: Integrating Library Services into a Learning Management System • Pauline Shostack presented OCC customized library nugget

  8. Birth of the BSC Nugget Librarian suggested nugget to me Contacted OCC for HTML code BSC created an empty nugget Added BSC customizations

BSC Customizations • Reference librarians identified key resources • Articles+ - combines 20 popular periodical DBs • Library Catalog • Encyclopedia Britannica • Oxford English Dictionary • Research Services, Library databases, Subject guides • ANGEL team chose tab and named nugget • Resources Tab → Information Resources • Institutional Resources nugget • Went live in Summer 2008

  24. To Make Successful • Need ability and rights to create nuggets • Familiar with HTML and ANGEL programming • Test! Test! Test! • Work with reference librarians • Make it single sign-on

  25. Results • Very positive feedback from faculty • New faculty request nugget • BSC Ebsco database usage increased dramatically in 2008-2009 • 1st in state • 5th in world
