Journal Expectations… • In your set-up you will get your materials, copy your notes, decide on who will be 4 and 5, and try to answer the challenge question. • After/while you read you will complete your literature circle assignment. • Go to the next assignment in the yellow pages. • Record your answer(s)to the Just for Me in your journal. • Record the question(s) and answer to the assessment on your lined paper and turn in for a grade.

Vocabulary • Exposition- introduces important background information to the audience • The Little Prince = innocence/childhood • Narrator = one who can’t decide who he wants to be • Desert = narrator’s mind, isolated/alone • “Matters of consequence”- Things that are important • Sahara Desert p. 6- world’s hottest dessert in North Africa • Apparition p. 6 - ghost, sprit, phantom, vision • Cumbersome p. 9 - heavy, burdensome • Indulgently p. 9- kindly, generously • Peal p. 11- clang, ringing • Reverie p. 11 - daydream, trance • Contemplation p. 12 - thought, examination

  6. Just For Me Because the exposition introduces us to the main characters and setting, let’s explore the main character- • Complete the character analysis map. • Describe the narrator in your just for me section.

  7. Assessment What is the purpose of an exposition? Consider- Will the character change?Explain. Will the setting change? Explain. Is the character the cause of the conflict or does the conflict shape the character?
