Background Facts About Google • Google was created as a research project at Stanford by Larry Page (who attended U of M, GO BLUE) and Sergey Brin. • Google is an American multinational Internet and software corporation  • For the first time ever, Google split its stock into a non-voting Class C. All the original shareholders from Classes A and B immediately attained a share. • Google’s name was created by accident when the number googol was misspelled. • USA Today named Google a “hot site” in September 1999. • On September 21, 1999, the beta label came off Google.com. • The first major investor, Andy Bechtolsheim, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems, wrote a check for $100,000 after seeing a quick demo.

  3. Value of Google Stocks • In March 2011, Google stocks were worth $586.76, and by March 2012, Google stocks were worth $641.24. • So, despite some drops in stock value, Google made it to 2012, not only alive in the stock market, but with a 9.28% gain in stock value
