  2. Good News…..there are less checks! • Limited the types of checks • Fewer ways that you can get checks

Motivation….pep rallies and activities • First marking period---school wide pep rally …games, prizes, special guests • Second m.p.– ice skating party (get out of school) • Third m.p.- fun assembly…special guests, games, prizes • Fourth m.p.- outside fun day….Rita’s • To make the activity/reward party…..19 or less checks and no ISS.

  4. Here are the new checks

  5. Unprepared for class • Student comes to class repeatedly without the necessary materials, including Book, pencil, calculator, notebook, packets, etc.

  6. Passport • The student does not have a passport in the hallway or uses another student’s passport

  7. Hallway Misconduct • Students is running or being unsafe in the hallway • Can include yelling in the hallway

  8. Inappropriate Language • Student uses inappropriate language that is not directed toward another student or staff member • Example. Student drops books in hallway and accidentally swears.

  9. Horseplay • Student engages in inappropriate physical contact including PDA (public displays of affection) • Example: Hugging, pushing (not meant to harm)

  10. Defiance/Disrespect/ Non-compliance • Student failure to respond to adult requests/directives. • Not following teacher’s class rules.

  11. Disruption • Student disrupts teacher or staff in the classroom • includes talking during instruction, out of seat, or other.

  12. Technology Violation • Student engages in non-serious but inappropriate (as defined by school) technology violation • pager, music/video players, camera, and/or computer. • Cell phone is seen but not used

  13. Property Misuse/throwing • Student misuses school property or equipment. • Writing on desks • Throwing paper • Writing in books • Wasting supplies • Leaving trash in cafeteria

  14. Tardy • Student repeatedly arrives at class after the bell

  15. Consequences of Checks • 10 checks= contact home • 20 checks = ISS • 30 checks = ISS • 30 checks also results in a meeting with your parents to discuss behavior

  16. What about the strikes? • Strikes are now part of an Office Discipline Referral (ODR) • All behaviors worthy of a strike will now go directly to the office. • Accumulation of checks will also earn a visit to the office. • All information will be kept on file for future reference. • Will determine participation in assemblies or activities (Reward Parties)

  17. Abusive Language/ Inappropriate Language/ Profanity • Student delivers verbal or non-verbal (hand gestures) messages that include swearing, name calling or use of words in an inappropriate way. • Directed towards another student or staff member

  18. Arson • Student plans and/or participates in burning of property.

  19. Bomb Threat/ False Alarm • Student delivers a message of possible explosive materials being in school, or near school, and/or pending explosion

  20. Defiance/Disrespect/ Insubordination/ Non-Compliance • Student engages in repeated refusal to follow directions, talks back and/or is disrespectful

  21. Disruption • Student engages in behavior causing an interruption in a class or activity. • includes • sustained loud talk, • yelling, or screaming; • noise with materials; • horseplay or roughhousing; • and/or sustained out-of-seat behavior.

  22. Dress Code Violation • Student wears clothing that does not fit within the dress code guidelines practiced by the school/district.

  23. Fighting • Student is involved in an incident involving physical violence.

  24. Forgery/ Theft • Student takes something that doesn’t belong to them without permission and/or passes the item on to someone else. • Student signed a person’s name without that person’s permission.

  25. Harassment/Bullying • Student delivers disrespectful messages* (verbal or gestural) to another person that includes threats and intimidation, obscene gestures, pictures, or written notes. • *Disrespectful messages include negative comments based on race, religion, gender, age, and/or national origin; sustained or intense verbal attacks based on ethnic origin, disabilities or other personal matters.

  26. Inappropriate Display of Affection • Student engages in inappropriate, verbal and/or physical gestures/contact of a sexual nature

  27. Inappropriate Location/ Out of Bounds Area • Student is in an area that is outside of school boundaries (as defined by school).

  28. Lying/Cheating • Student copies another students work and tries to take credit. • Student lies to staff • Copying materials from internet • Cheating on test/quizzes

  29. Misconduct for a SUB • The student acts in a disruptive or disrespectful manner towards a substitute teacher

  30. Physical Aggression • Student engages in actions involving serious physical contact where injury may occur (e.g., hitting, punching, hitting with an object, kicking, hair pulling, scratching, etc.).

  31. Property Damage/Vandalism • Student participates in an activity that results in destruction or damage of property. • Using science equipment inappropriately

  32. Skip class • Student leaves or misses class without permission

  33. Technology Violation • Student violates school cell phone policy • Uses cell phone • Phone rings in class • Student violates school computer/internet policy

  34. Use/Possession of Alcohol • Student is in possession of or is using alcohol

  35. Use/Possession of Combustibles • Student is in possession of substances/objects easily capable of causing bodily harm and/or property damage (matches, lighters, firecrackers, gasoline, lighter fluid).

  36. Use/Possession of Drugs • Student is in possession of or is using illegal drugs/substances or imitations.

  37. Use/Possession of Tobacco • Student is in possession of or is using tobacco.

  38. Use/Possession of Weapons • Student is in possession of knives or guns (real or look alike), or other objects readily capable of causing bodily harm.

  39. Consequences of Office Discipline Referral (ODR) • Misconduct forms now called Office Discipline Referral (ODR) • Every ODR results in a contact with parent • Possible consequences for receiving an ODR • Meeting with principal • Parent meeting • Team meeting • Lunch detention with Mr. Rudy • ISS– In school suspension • OSS– Out of school suspension • Not allowed to participate in school assemblies or pep rallies • Not allowed to participate in after school activities or dances
