St Patricks’ day - IRELAND I live in Ireland, a country located in the Northern part of the Earth, next to England and Scotland. Ireland is an island and It was part of England time ago. Now, we are a green country with lots of traditions and festivities.
St Patricks’ day - IRELAND BASIC INFORMATION: One of the most important days in my country is St Patricks’ day. It’s celebrated on the 17th March, when he died, and it is a religious celebration. It’s typical of my country, Ireland. Saint Patrick’s is the patron Saint of Ireland. Nowadays, it is a tradition for all families to celebrate this day and it’s a feast day in the country, this means we don’t have classes and people don’t work in that day.
St Patricks’ day - IRELAND • I like a lot this day because everybody dresses in green, it’s very funny!!!
St Patricks’ day - IRELAND My routine: I usually get up early this morning, I dress in green and we go to the church. After the mass celebration, we go to the street and there, there is a big parade with music, people dressed in costumes and candies for babies. I like it a lot because my father usually wears a T-shirt with this not on it: KISS ME I’M IRISH. He is not the only one, a lot of people wears green t-shirts with the same not. It is also very funny to see a lot of people dressed like leprechauns, the magical dwarf of Ireland
St Patricks’ day - IRELAND After the parade, all my family goes home with my aunts, my grandparents and my cousins. There, my mother prepares a big meal with typical Irish dishes and you know what? All of them are green dishes! corned beef with steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes with parsley and green onions
St Patricks’ day - IRELAND CURIOUS THINGS The Green color is also due to the shamrock clover, It is a green plant which it is said it brings you good luck when you find one. Another typical thing is to listen to Irish music. At home, in the streets, everybody dances and sings. Our Irish music is very good, it comes from Celtic music and we play instruments like violins, harps, flutes among others.
THIS IS MY PREFER FESTIVITY, AND YOURS?
