Highway 5-Honest communication • Like the other highways, this one builds on the highways before it. • #2 – Risk Taking – Do you have the courage to say what you really mean as opposed to what you think others expect you to say. • #3 – Full Responsibility – honest communication never involves blaming and complaining, but faces the reality that you are sharing what it true for you(others may agree), • #4 – Feel all your feelings – HC involves the head and heart. When we admit to others our feelings and thoughts, we are more open and honest. • -once you do this you are open to having others judge you. • People are social by nature…think of the growth of social media. • Objectives for Highway 5 • 1. To learn to listen with an open heart and a clear understanding. • 2. To learn to ask others for what we want in a non-aggressive manner. • 3. To learn to say No when we mean no and set boundaries. • 4. To learn to confront another person in a non-aggressive way • 5. To learn how to use humor to diffuse tough situations. • 6. To learn how to stop third party communication, gossip and rumors.

Sometimes people think they are giving constructive criticism whereas to the person being criticized, it comes out as nothing but destructive and not well-meaning. • Dishing out constructive criticism: how to tips • When you criticize constructively or criticize in a constructive (building) manner, there are a few points you need to remember: • 1. Avoid being negative • 2. Remember to highlight strengths first, before you could bring out the not so good points - praise the person for their positive traits • 3. Do not critic the person, but do critic the behavior or action and do admit to not being clean yourself • 4. Your voice and body language says it all - constructive criticism and destructive kind will both reflect in your voice, and actions • 5. Afford the person an opportunity to speak, and finish on a warm note
Pictionary • 1. Divide into two teams; • 2. each person write down a 3-word phrase like “not for sale” or “close the door,” on slips of paper. • 3.
