About me • I am the largest of all Channel Island’s native animals. • I am similar to my ancestors but smaller. • I am a cat sized carnivore descendant of the gray fox. • I live on Channel Islands between 19 and 61 miles off the coast of South America. • While deer mice are a favorite, birds, snakes, lizards, crabs and insects are also eaten. • My scientific name is Urocyon littoralis.
My natural enemies Birds Golden eagles • Humans Humans used our fur for big coats _______________________________________________ • Runaway • Coloration • Climb • Bark(remember I’m part of the dog family) • Bite How I protect myself
The age I have babies • I can have babies at the age of 1. • I can have 3,4, or even 5 babies.
When my babies are born • The kits are born blind and helpless, and will remain in the den for the first three or four weeks, until they are ready to forage with me, the mom. • The kits quickly become independent and soon search out their own territories.
How I take care of my babies • I protect them exactly how I protect myself against predators.
