4. Key Dates • Enrollment for Summer and Fall begins on March 24th and continues through April 18th. 8. ADVISING HOLD • There is an enrollment advising hold on all students accounts that must be pulled by an advisor before the student can enroll on iSIS . This can be accomplished by • - meeting with an advisor • - completing an advising waiver at www.ksu.edu/kines and turning it in to an advisor or the main office (Natatorium 1A)

9. Meeting with an advisor • The easiest way to schedule an advising meeting is to email an advisor with the days and times you can meet. We will then check our schedules to set up a meeting that is convenient for you. A typical meeting can last from 10 to 30 minutes during which your flag will be pulled and a tentative schedule will be developed for the next semester.

13. What you need to bring to your advising session • Your Kinesiology folder with your curriculum and information • A tentative list of courses you would like to enroll in • Some general goals you would like to achieve in the next semester • Questions you have about the department, college, university that need to be addressed

14. Advising session • Sign advising checklist • Go over current semester and completed courses • Identify potential courses to enroll in for next semester and semester goals • Develop list of potential courses for enrollment • Answer any questions, address any concerns

After advising session • Student will go through and develop a schedule with days and times, with alternatives if desired courses are not available • Student will enroll on iSIS at earliest available date • Student will contact an advisor with any questions or issues that they encounter • Students are responsible for courses they enroll in. Advisors will assist student in developing a schedule appropriate for the Kinesiology major

17. Degree requirements – HE • 120 total hours • Maximum 60 hours transfer from a 2 year institution • 45 hours above 300 level courses • 2.0 overall GPA • 2.2 Kinesiology GPA in 35 core hours • “C” or better in 35 Kinesiology core courses • 20 of last 30 hours at KSU • All degree requirements met

18. General education classes • Students must complete all college and departmental requirements to receive degree • Use the Degree Audit report in iSIS to monitor progress towards your degree • At approximately 85 completed hours, visit with your advisor about completing a grad check

The Kinesiology curriculum • The Kinesiology curriculum has a 17 hour lower level core and 18 hours of upper level classes with at least 4 courses in either the exercise physiology emphasis or the public health/physical activity emphasis. 20. Emphasis Areas in the curriculum • Exercise Physiology : is the responses of the human body to physical activity. Emphasis is placed on understanding the structure-function relationships of the respiratory, cardiovascular, and muscular systems and how their function is integrated to support the dynamics of muscular contraction. • Public Health/Physical Activity : Public health physical activity is the social and behavioral epidemiology of physical activity in public health, social and psychological influences on physical activity, and promotion of physical activity in individuals, settings and communities.

Students with transfer credits will need permission from advisor to enroll. • Kin 336 – Kin 335 or concurrent enrollment • Kin 345/346 – Psych 110, Socio 211, and Kin 220 all with a C or better (345 and 346 must be enrolled in concurrently)

29. BS/MS Degree • The combined BS/MS program provides exceptional undergraduates with the opportunity to obtain both a bachelor of science and master of science degree in Kinesiology in five years, a shorter time than typically required to earn a BS and MS if both degrees are earned separately. The program has two options : thesis and course work. In turn, the course work option has two tracks that permit the completion of the requirements for certification by the American College of Sports Medicine as an exercise specialist or public health physical activity specialist.

30. BS/MS Degree • The goal of the program is to produce graduates with an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of Kinesiology and a broad set of professional skills. The curriculum will include both coursework and laboratory research experience. Graduates will be well equipped either to seek applied professional positions or pursue advanced degrees. The advantages of the combined degree to students seeking private sector employment will be entry level positions with higher-level responsibilities, higher pay, and opportunities for more rapid advancement. The rigorous training and combined BS/MS will offer a competitive advantage in the admissions process to students interested in pursuing a PhD or professional degree

31. BS/MPH • The concurrent BS/MPH program provides exceptional undergraduate students with the opportunity to obtain both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Public Health degree in a shorter time period than typically required if both degrees are pursued separately.  It was approved by the university in the Spring of 2010.

32. BS/MPH • This option allows for up to 9 credit hours to be applied to both the BS and the MPH degree. In order to apply credits from the undergraduate major to the MPH degree requirements, the student must: • Apply and meet the normal admission requirements listed on the MPH website (http://www.k-state.edu/mphealth/admission.html) and required for application to the Graduate School, including a 3.0 GPA in last 60 hours of course work. • Meet the requirements required for the desired MPH emphasis area, i.e., have the prerequisites completed. • If accepted, the student is provisionally admitted into the MPH Program and allowed to take graduate courses.  The agreed upon courses (9 hours) must be taken for graduate credit in courses numbered in the 600 and 700 sequences. • Note that the student must be accepted before enrolling in any graduate courses.  Application for the BS/MPH option is generally made at the end of the junior year or early in the senior year. • Enroll and complete the appropriate courses agreed upon by the undergraduate department and the MPH emphasis area with a grade of B or better for graduate credit. • Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree, the student is then fully admitted to the Graduate School and the MPH program. 

33. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • - Students may apply for the concurrent BS/MS or BS/MPH program from the second semester of the sophomore year through the second semester of the junior year (when they have accumulated 45-90 hours toward the BS degree. Students may apply during the senior year with special permission from the chair of the Kinesiology department and/or the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Kinesiology • - Students must have completed the Kinesiology core courses (Kin 220, 335, 336, 345, and 346) • - Minimum standards for regular admission and for retention in the program require a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.0 in required courses.

34. Fall graduates • Students planning on graduating in Fall must complete an application for graduation in iSIS. This application is under the Student Center in the “other academic” box
