WHAT IS ISO 50001? ISO 50001 is a framework for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an Energy Management System (EnMS) ● Uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle to drive ongoing energy management ● Reduce energy use, costs, and emissions through structured processes ● ISO 50001 helps organizations develop policies for more efficient energy use ● 5 © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting
KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF ISO 50001 Global Applicability: ISO 50001 can be implemented by any organization, regardless of size or sector ● Structured Framework: Provides a systematic approach to improve energy performance ● Continuous Improvement: Emphasizes ongoing enhancements in energy management and efficiency ● 6 © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting
OBJECTIVES OF ISO 50001 Optimize Energy Usage Promote Best Practice Reduce Environmental Impact Establish and reinforce energy management standards across operations and supply chains. Help organizations improve the efficiency of their energy-consuming assets. Enable energy efficiency improvements to lower greenhouse gas emissions. 7 © Operational Excellence Consulting
BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING ISO 50001 Increase leadership involvement and employee engagement Ensure adherence to energy-related regulations Build trust with stakeholders through sustainability practices Improved productivity with efficient energy use Cost reduction through better use of energy assets Encourage better energy performance of suppliers 8 © Operational Excellence Consulting
REAL-WORLD SUCCESS: HILTON Hilton was the first global hospitality company to achieve ISO 50001 certification ● Results: 20.6% reduction in energy intensity and 30% reduction in carbon intensity since 2008 ● © Operational Excellence Consulting 9

INTERNAL AUDIT To ensure the whole Energy Management System is audited to check: ● The system is being followed o The system meets ISO 50001:2018 requirements o The system is effectively implemented and maintained o 15 15 © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting
AUDIT APPROACH Focuses on employees’ understanding of the organization’s processes and verifies that these processes are: ● complied with o under control o achieving the desired results o Provide evidence, e.g. records, meeting minutes, reports, data and emails ● © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting 16 16
AUDIT EMPHASIS Measurements and results of energy performance and the effectiveness of the system are of greater importance than mere presence of documented information ● © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting 17 17 17
REVIEW OF DOCUMENTED INFORMATION Documented information refers to information that must be controlled and maintained ● You are expected to maintain and control the medium as well as the information ● Purpose is to ensure that, in theory, the documented information meets the requirements of ISO 50001:2018 or other standards ● 18 18 18 © Operational Excellence Consulting © Operational Excellence Consulting
AUDIT FINDINGS MAJOR NONCONFORMITY MINOR NONCONFORMITY OBSERVATION ▪ A minor nonconformity is an observed lapse in your systems ability to meet the requirements of the standard or your internal systems, while the overall process remains intact ▪ An observation or opportunity for improvement relates to a matter about which the Auditor is concerned but which cannot be clearly stated as a non- conformity ▪ A major nonconformity relates to the absence or total breakdown of a required process or a number of minor nonconformities listed against similar areas ▪ A major nonconformity at the Registration Audit would defer recommendation for registration until that major has been closed ▪ Observations also indicate trends which may result in a future nonconformity 19 © Operational Excellence Consulting
