The Sweet Aroma of Christ born out of: • Love (John 1:14) • Obedience (Luke 22:42) • Sacrifice (Heb. 9:28) • “And walk in love, as Christ also hath • loved us, and hath given himself for us • an offering and a sacrifice to God for a • sweetsmellingsavour.” Eph. 5:2
The Sweet Aroma of the Christ follower should be born out of: • Love • Walk (in love)-in daily conduct (a present imperative=continuous and habitual) (vs.2)
Love-“It is love which is commanded in believers, empowered by His Spirit, activated by personal choice of one's will, is not based on one's feelings toward the object of one's love and is manifested by specific actions.” (I Cor. 13:4-8)
Impels us to sacrifice for the benefit of the object loved. • Not sentimental or emotional, but an act of the will. • The love that God has for humanity, as demonstrated by Christ. (Jer. 31:3; Rom. 5:6-8; I Jn. 4:10)
GOD LOVE OTHERS LOVE
Obedience • Have the mind of Christ (Phil. 2:5-8) • Its better to obey than sacrifice (I Sam 15) • Leads to a solid foundation (Matt. 7:24-27) • Reinforces our love (John 14:15)
Sacrifice • A willingness to give it all (Mark 10:17ff) • A simple praise sacrifice (Heb. 13:15) • A living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1-2)
Repentance (Psa. 51:17) • Prayer (Rev. 5:8) • Suffering (II Cor. 4:8-18) • Witness (II Cor. 2:14-16)
