File Server • Delivers programs and data to workstations • does not process data nor run programs • program run in the processor and memory of workstation
Print Server • Receives from workstations and then forwards these print jobs to a network printer • can use the same computer as the file server • can be another computer • nowadays, can be together with a router • manage print queue
Print Queue • print the document in order of requesting to print • handle the print jobs in sequential order starting at the beginning of the line • FIFO • first-in-first-out
Application Server • Runs a specific application software package and forwards the result of its processing to workstations • using the processing power of server and workstations
Domain Server • For login and control domain services • security, user management • Server Type • Primary Domain Controller (PDC) • Backup Domain Controller (BDC) • Synchronization • Load balancing
Web Server • Storing web pages for public to view • has a domain name, IP • domain name • http://intranet.kcc.edu.hk • IP • 192.168.0.12 • 218.188.3.4
Web master has the right to read and write files into a particular location of the web server • User only has the right to view files in a particular location of the web server
