Butfirst a short introductionaboutwho ”we” are … • What and who is EUMETNET ? • What is E-AMDAR ?
EUMETNET is …… • An Economical Interest Group (EIG) of 29 European NMS’s • Provides a framework for co-operative programmes relating to: • observing systems (EUCOS Programme) • data processing • basic forecasting products • research and development • training • Aims to: • develop the collective capability of EUMETNET Members • deliver to all European users the best available quality of meteorological information • management of collective resources more efficiently
EUMETNET does ….. • MemberNMHS:scontribute in the EUMETNET budget (11 MUSD) in proportion totheir GNP • Someof the 20 Programmesaremandatory and othersareoptional • By costsharing the benefitsaremaximised at lowercostto the individualMembers • The individualProgrammeshavebeendesigned by individualMembers or groupsofMembers • EachProgramme is managed by a ResponsibleMember on behalfof all Membersduring a defined period (currently 5 years)
EUMETNET provides … • the opportunity for Memberstofinance extra AMDAR data for national NWP requirements • the opportunity for other WMO Memberinstitutestofinancetargeted AMDAR data for national NWP requirements
E-AMDAR Management • Swedish Meteorological and HydrologicalInstitute (SMHI) is the ResponsibleMember 2003-2006 and 2007-2012 • OneProgramme Manager (SMHI) 0.9 FTE • OneTechnicalCoordinator (UK Met Office) 0.9 FTE • Special Coodinator for the Humidity Project ~0.3 FTE offeredin kind by German WeatherService (DWD)

FITTED WITH EXISTING SENSORS + AVIONICS HARDWARE + AVIONICS SOFTWARE + COMMUNICATIONS AMDAR SOFTWARE = + AMDAR Technical description AMDAR (AircraftMeteorologicalDAtaRelay) • Nonew hardware is required on the aircraft - the only additional requirement to make AMDAR work is the AMDAR software. This is installed in the aircraft avionics or communications hardware. TYPICAL AMDAR INSTALLATION
