  4. Geography Great Britain is an island. Great Britain is between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. Great Britain is near France. Only 35 km apart. The English Channel separates Great Britain and France.
  5. Great Britain is Long and narrow The distance between the longest two points in the Great Britain is 1,350 km long. you can travel from one point to another in only two days in a car. The widest point is only 500 km. The total land is 245,000 sk.
  6. England England is over half of the total area of the UK. England is in the middle of the UK. England has a lowland areas (flat areas). The capital city of UK – London is in England. The Thames River is the main river in England and it’s goes through London.
  7. Scotland Scotland is under a third of the total area of the UK. Scotland is in the north of the UK. Scotland has eight hundred islands. Scotland has highland region with high mountains and lowland areas. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland but Edinburgh is the capital and political center.
  8. Wales Wales in only a tenth of the total area of the UK. Wales in mostly mountains. The main population and industrial areas are in South Wales in Cardiff and Newport. Wales has over 1,200 km of coastline.
  9. Northern Ireland Northern Ireland is only 14,000 sk. Northern Ireland is mostly hilly.
  10. Climate The climate in the UK is rainy all year round. Summers are warmest in the South of England because the area is closest to the European Mainland. The coolest area is Scotland in the north.
  11. The Queen of England Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is the head of the state of the UK. She is married to Prince Philip and they have four children. Queen Elizabeth is very rich. She has about 450$ million. The royal family has a special flag and symbol.
  12. Buckingham Palace Queen Elizabeth lives in Buckingham Palace in London. but, it’s not her only home… Queen Elizabeth had many castles and estates all over the UK. You can come and visit a real palace - Some rooms in Buckingham Palace are open to the public in the summer.
  13. Around the Palace The Queen has special guards. They guard the queen and the palace. The Queen’s guards wear black trousers, red jacket and tall furry black hats. A big park called Hyde park is next to the Palace where you can sit and enjoy the view.
  14. London London is the capital city of the UK. London is located on the River Thames. There are many historical sites in London like : Westminster Abbey, The Tower Bridge, The Tower of London and the Big Ben.
  15. More about the UK The buses in London are red and have two floors. The London Eye is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe.
  16. Sports Football is the national sports in the UK. There are some famous football teams like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. Tennis is also popular in the UK. The Wimbledon Stadium is where the tennis competitions are held.
