    1. NCA District Accreditation NCA Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement Overview of this new framework.

    2. Why Use This District Accreditation? Recognizes the uniqueness of each school within the district. Provides support through leadership, resources and services. Strives to reach the exemplary stage of improvement and provide the learner with a seamless transition for school to career. NCA accreditation complements Education YES!

    3. School Level Restructuring Many times schools work with only a few components at the school level. Students at the next school level have been exposed to a variety of restructuring techniques. True restructuring requires a systemic approach.

    4. System Change If only one component of a system is changed, the system will likely return to its original state in a relatively short time. “Systemic” change means to take into account the effect each component has on the other components.

    5. Some Examples of System Components Curriculum Facilities Resources Leadership, Vision Instruction Larger Educational Community Student Services Fiscal Management

    6. Creating a Vision The mission statement guides the district vision. The school level goals should be guided by the district mission. The goals should reflect, not copy the district mission.

    7. Membership All schools must be candidates or members or Have a long term plan for bringing all schools into membership. Accredited by regional association.

    8. District Responsibilities Develop the vision, mission and values. Involve all stakeholders. Verify school membership Annual accountability report to the community Host district peer review visits. Provide technical assistance to schools. Report at conclusion of cycle – results of plan and documentation.

    9. What NCA Provides Personalized systemic approach. Data-driven decision-making process. External peer review. Measurement of organizational effectiveness against high standards. Focus on student performance at each level.

    10. Peer Visits Plan reviewed by school improvement members from other buildings within the district. Annual review of different portions of school programs. A visit with non-NCA components Documentation –small team. Secondary school requires external peer review team visit.

    11. NCA District Accreditation Process Collect and analyze data. Develop a district profile. Determine areas of Strengths and Needs. Monitor Alignment of District and Building Mission and Beliefs. Develop District Improvement Goals. Develop Building level Improvement Goals

    13. NCA District Accreditation Process Analyze and document student, school and system improvement. Verify that schools follow the NCA school improvement protocol. Submit system summary report.

    14. NCA and Education YES! 67% of state evaluation process is related to MEAP scores. (Achievement)

    15. Education YES! – Achievement Standards Achievement Status, Change and Growth based on three years of data. (Included in NCA process)+++ Status: A measurement based on data to be collected from all students. Change: A measurement of whether student achievement is improving or declining. Growth: A measure of whether students are receiving at leas one gear of academic growth for each year of instruction.

    16. Education YES!- Performance Standards Indicators of Engagement Use of performance management system (such as NCA)++++, Continuous improvement and Curriculum alignment. Indicators of Instructional Quality Professional Development, extended learning opportunities, Arts and Humanities and Advanced coursework. Indicators of Learning Opportunities Family involvement, Student attendance and drop out rate, four year education and employment plan and school facilities.

    17. In Summary NCA provides a new district wide accreditation process focused on system change. All schools will be focused on the same goal areas. Individual schools will be assisted by teams from the feeder schools. The management of school improvement includes a process required by Education YES!
