Computer aided archive system for people with impairments University of Bridgeport
Summary • computer-aided system able to identify in any moment the location of a particular file in an archive by aid of a micro-chip attached to each file • drawer automation, allowing the file to be pushed up to make it easy for the person to grab it
Why this idea? Increasing demand for archiving in: • Police • FBI • IRS • Embassies • Hospitals • Universities
Visibility impaired • voice enabled feature which will speak the exact location of the file searched, indicating the row and the column • the file is already pushed up from the cabinet
Audibility impaired • can read the location on the computer screen • the file is already pushed up from the cabinet
Mobility impaired • can read the position on the screen and can use the wheel chair to go to the right place and pick up the file • the file is already pushed up from the cabinet, ready to pick up
Speech impaired • the system will help them with the screen indications • the file is already pushed up from the cabinet, ready to pick up
Advantages • a more accessible archiving system for impaired persons • easy to utilize • less time • lower cost of access to the files • files don’t need to be put in order • how many times it was accessed and by whom and at what time and date • increased productivity
System Design Two main sub-systems: 1.mechanical system 2.electrical system The system for a three drawer cabinet
Design - continued Drawer opening A three drawer cabinet
Design - continued Engine and sliding stem representation Drawer representation
Discussions – another idea • use one or more robotic arms in conjunction with proposed system • more costly • more effective at moving files and saving even more time and space.
