  2. Grammar Review Underline the subject, verb, and direct object in the sentence below: I like the book.

  4. The Verb Gustar • The word “like” does not exist in Spanish. • The infinitive “gustar” means “to please” and replaces “to like” . • “I like the book.” and “The book pleases me.” mean the same thing. They are expressing the same idea.

  5. Rewrite the sentence below replacing “like” with “pleases”. Ilikethe book. Subject Verb(D.O.) The bookpleasesme. Subject Verbindirect object pronoun (I.O.P.)

  6. Rewrite the sentence in Spanish. The book pleases me. El librogusta me.

  7. ***4. The Flipper Rule: ALL OBJECT PRONOUNS COME BEFORE THE VERB.**** El librogusta me. New sentence is going to be: El libromegusta.

  8. 5. Many Spanish people will say: “Megusta el libro.” Know that: “Megusta el libro” & “El libromegusta” mean the same thing. They are interchangeable.

  9. 6. The verb “gustar” is conjugated to agree with the subject of the sentence. El libromegusta. Los librosmegustan. If the subject is singular the verb will take 3rd person singular form. If the subject is plural the verb will take 3rd person plural form.
