Solutions for raw water intake during the dry season Introduction Current situation Long term & Short term Solutions Criteria Imput from: Cipta Karya (Province): Pak Angiat BWSK: Pak Sapri Pak Masryatno (former technical director) PDAM Kota Pontianak
20102017 • Drinking water demand: 1,068 m3/s 1,769 m3/s • Production capacity 1,21 m3/s 1,51 m3/s • Production capacity in the • dry season: 300 l/s 1300 l/s • Costumers coverage: 60% 90% • Population growth: 2,74 %/year 2,74 %/year Introduction: characteristics of the treatment facility in Pontianak Ambition
(Technical) Problems during the dry season • During the extreme events of 1997 and 2002 (resp. 110 and 80 days) the pipe to Penepat (24 km upstream) was only 20-30% of the time operational due to: • Lack of fuel • Mechanical failure of the pumps • Leakage of the transport pipe • Beside these problems there is a capacity deficit of approx. 900 l/s
New transport pipe to Penepat New transport pipe to Penepat (under construction) Capacity: - Current Pipe (d=600 mm) = 300 l/s (v = 1 m/s) - New Pipe (d=800) = 500 l/s (v = 1 m/s) - In Holland the transport velocity of 1 m/s is normal)
Scope of solutions Short term Intake further upstream Optimise capacity WTPs and decrease leakage Update Penepat intake, including reservoir or extend pipeline to Biyung Long term Blocking salt water from the sea Create fresh water reservoir for the dry period Flushing KK by constructing canal Sukalanting
Stop sea water from entering the river system Construct a dam, must be able to Regulate river discharge Pass the ships It depends on the functional requirements Location: River mouth (Jungkat) or Ambawang (idea of Prof. Arwin)
A fresh water reservoir 1.26 m3/s = 150,000 m3/day (in combination with Penepat) Dry season = 110 days Reservoir: 12,000,000 m3 When you fill it up to two meters you need an area of approx. 600 ha.
Flushing the Kapuas Kecil in the dry season Construct a bypass in the river near Sukalanting (not as simple as it looks like)
