Obama’s Opinion "I continue to believe that we need to close Guantanamo. I think it is critical for us to understand that Guantanamo is not necessary to keep us safe. It is expensive, it is inefficient, it hurts us in terms of our international standing, it lessens cooperation with our allies on counterterrorism efforts, it is a recruitment tool for extremists. It needs to be closed,"
How Does this Relate to Econ? • GDP • If the prison closes the government gains money because the people pay for prisons through their taxes and if a prison is shut down then the government gets more money through the people’s taxes since they no longer have to fund the prison. • The government also gets money from its prisoners for their time served.
