HyTASP Program Committee • HyTASP - A very active International committee of those whose interests focus on Hypersonic Technologies & Aerospace Planes. - Members from every organization with major hypersonic activities. (Approximately 75 members) • Founding chair was Dick Culpepper who was followed by Walt O’Brien Dave Reubush became chair in October, 2002 • Provides an interface to bridge between TC’s • Sponsors the AIAA International Space Planes and Hypersonic Systems and Technologies Conference approx. every 18 months • Brings an awareness of hypersonic issues to stakeholders (Aerospace America November, 2002 editorial, CVD White Paper 2004) • With an increasing emphasis on hypersonics in DOD as well as in foreign countries & an attempted abandonment by NASA the committee sees an increasing need for its coordination & advocacy activities
HyTASP Program Committee • TC Liaisons • Air Breathing Propulsion - Balu Sekar • Modeling & Simulation - Peter Montgomery • Fluid Dynamics - Mike Holden (Joint Membership) • Ground Test - ? - Recently published book on Hyp. Facilities) • TC’s with Common Interests as Evidenced by Papers Presented at HyTASP Sponsored Conferences • Applied Aerodynamics • Aerodynamic Measurement Technology • Atmospheric Flight Mechanics • Guidance, Navigation & Control • Thermophysics • Aircraft Design • Flight Testing • Space Transportation • Design Engineering • Structural Dynamics • Structures
HyTASP - Meetings & Conferences • Meets 2 or 3 times per year • Aerospace Sciences • Joint Propulsion • International Space Planes and Hypersonic Systems and Technologies (HyTASP Sponsors) • Last Conference 12/15-18/03 in Norfolk, VA to coincide with 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight. Conference adjourned and participants were bused to reenactment in Kitty Hawk. Conference was very well attended. • Next Conference scheduled for May 16-20, 2005 in Capua, Italy • Overwhelming number of papers submitted • Had to resort to poster sessions to accommodate all the good submissions • Following Conference tentatively scheduled for Fall 2006 in Australia
HyTASP - Advocacy • Concern by committee members that hypersonic technologies have insufficient funding to insure availability by the time the nation will need them • Subcommittee developed white paper which was presented during past Congressional Visits Day • White paper contributed to success of $25M earmark in FY05 NASA budget • Continuing advocacy required to maintain support
