Does it cost the AHS more? • yes and no!! • Increases – VMO payments are more than would be paid to long term permanent VMOs • Decreases - locum costs, admin time, workforce instability, accommodation, rooms, infrastructure • Other savings – decreased relative utilisation due to improved primary health care and continuity of service. Decreased community staff costs Ochre Health

  6. Does it work? • Every first on call shift covered for 4 years • Relative Utilisation 2000/1 – 2003/4 • Bourke – 18%, Bre – 34% • Diabetes - HbA1c • Workforce Stability • Allied Health Team growing by the minute!! Ochre Health
