  1. Workers’ Compensation • Required by law – Belmont must cover all employees who sustain a work related injury. (Includes student workers while they are on the job) • A work related injury is defined as an illness/injury that has incurred out of the scope and nature a person’s of employment • It does not mean playing basketball on lunch break and twisting an ankle

  2. Workers’ Compensation • All medical bills are paid in full (no deductable, no co-pays)

  3. Workers’ Compensation • Partial compensation benefits are awarded • After 7 calendar days of being out, the injured gets 66.67% of compensation • If out for 15 calendar days, compensation benefits of 66.67% begin on first date out.

  4. Workers’ Compensation & FMLA • FMLA would run concurrently with Workers Compensation and protect the person’s job for 12 weeks.

  5. Workers’ Compensation • Steps for reporting injury. • Fill out the Employee Injury Report. • Choose a clinic, chiropractor, or physician from the Panel of Physicians • Turn in the form to the Office of Human Resources call 460-5650 or 460-6456, or email mandy.hodge@belmont.edu, and/or donna.gwaltney@belmont.edu. Some of the physicians require prior authorization from HR before they will see a patient. • Your supervisor will need to complete the Supervisor's Accident Report and a Witness Report as applicable. • In emergency, call Campus Security at x6911 to get an ambulance for the injured employee. The supervisor should fill out the Employee Injury Report and notify Human Resources.

  6. Timely Reporting is Key • HR is required to report all work-related injuries within 24-48 hours of the injury. • If 7 days go by before you report the injury it will be highly scrutinized by the insurance company. • If you wait 30 days to report the claim it can be denied.

  7. Injured person is not an employee • We do have some general liability insurance which may protect visitors to campus • These claims need to be reported immediately to Laura Prentice 460-6023, 3rd Floor, Freeman Hall • Laura Prentice – x6023 Liability Insurance Forms • Mandy Hodge – x5650 Worker’s Compensation
